We are huge fans of the wonderful and historic Berkeley Castle and have always found it to be a fantastic place for a fun family day out, whether it’s for a specific event or just to enjoy the magnificent castle and gorgeous grounds it’s definitely up there as one of our most favourite places to visit.
On Sunday 1st of September we went along to Berkeley Castle to catch the warrior show and to enjoy a wander around the beautiful grounds. Freya was very excited to be visiting the castle again as were we. The last time we visited was back in April when we enjoyed the fabulous jousting show, one of the many events that is hosted at the castle throughout the year. We enjoyed the jousting very much and so was really looking forward to the warrior show which Luke luckily spotted advertised a few days before. It was fantastic! We had such a lovely day and I’ve put together some of my favourite photos to share in this post.
On our arrival we took a few minutes to take in the beautiful views from the gun terrace whilst we decided what to do first.
I loved the fantastic wire sculptures that are currently being displayed in and around the castle for the Ghosts of Berkeley exhibition.
Freya also brought her very own camera along and enjoyed taking photos of the cute dragons hidden around the castle grounds.
She requested we go for a wander in the woodland first to see what we could find.
The weather was perfect to enjoy the castle grounds and great for watching the Warwick Warriors.
Freya wasn’t the only one that enjoyed the play equipment!
After a little swing we made our way across the lawn to get a good spot to watch the Warrior show.
Could not resist another photo of the beautiful Berkeley fortress.
Before settling down to watch the show we had a go at some hula hooping and a quick game of hoopla! Lots of garden games and play equipment is available down on the lawn and it’s a fab way to keep the kids entertained and such a lovely added extra when visiting the Castle.
Freya was definitely the best at hula hooping.
We made sure to get to the location of the show early enough to get a good view and whilst waiting enjoyed a game of tag and searched for butterflies.
When the Warwick warriors made their appearance we settled down for our picnic and to enjoy the show right at the front of the action.
Freya was a little unsure about being so close to the knights in shining armour, of course it is a family friendly show and completely safe, she was just a little nervous about being at the front. Luke was absolutely in his element though so we left him to enjoy the show close up and i took Freya to watch from further back. We also put daddy in charge of getting photos and i have to say he done a very good job!
The show was great, the Warwick warriors were so funny and very entertaning. Luckily me and little lady still had a fantastic view from a little further back and in no time she was booing the bad knight and cheering on the good. She even gave them a round of applause at the end of the show.
After the show and some more fun with the garden games….
We explored some more of the castle gardens and grounds, enjoying the calming atmosphere and the beautiful surroundings.
I think the dressing up area is always one of Freya’s favourite places to visit and this time i got involved too!
Our beautiful princess.
We finished off our visit with a look around the butterfly house which houses and protects an incredibly beautiful variety of colourful butterflies and gorgeous flowers.
Once again we thoroughly enjoyed our visit and throughout September there will be a Bekeley Castle Uncovered exhibition which sounds incredible so hopefully we’ll be heading back soon.
